A Brief Analysis of Totally Enclosed Dust-free Optical Engine and Open Optical Engine Technology

In recent years, CRE's fully enclosed dust-free optical engine has completely exploded the home LED projector market, and with its high quality, low after-sales rate and easy customization, major LED projector brands have chosen CRE's optical engine to enter the home LED projector market. So, why is a fully enclosed optical engine recognized by the market? What are the advantages of a fully enclosed dust-free design over other types of optical engines?

First of all, we need to have a preliminary understanding of the composition of the optical engine, most of the LED projectors on the market now take the reflection principle of light source → screen → imaging as the design concept. So, a LED projector imaging brightness and its light source brightness has a direct link, the stronger the light source brightness power, brightness loss in the projection process less, so the final imaging effect will be better, but also, the higher the power of the light source, its own heat will be higher, correspondingly, if the heat dissipation treatment is not in place, the problem of burning the machine will be unavoidable, reducing the overall product life.

In the early years, when the technology of Chinese LED projectors was not yet mature, manufacturers gave priority to heat dissipation and cost in the production of optical engines, which were designed to be open to ensure that heat dissipation was a priority. This means that the entire structure of the optical engine is exposed to the air, using its own cooling system and air circulation to quickly reduce the temperature of the optical engine components and reduce the burn-in problem caused by overheating.

However, open optical engines also have their own drawbacks: during the heat dissipation process of an optical engine exposed to air for a long period of time, the floating dust, particles and various floating objects that are not easily detected by the naked eye will inevitably be stuck in the projection imaging system. This defect is not obvious at the beginning of the product's use, but after 3 or 4 months of continuous use, the adhesion of various pollutants intensifies, and the most intuitive manifestation is that the final image appears gray and hazy, and the noise of heat dissipation becomes more and more harsh. All this is due to the pollutants blocking the light source, display, cooling fan and other areas, resulting in reduced light through the rate, more difficult to dissipate heat. After less than six months of use, burn-in, imaging blurred with black spots and other problems are common.

To solve these problems, optical engine manufacturers have also used double filters, pleated filters and other programs, this initiative does make the open optical engine dustproof effect has been significantly improved, but the need for frequent clear replacement filters to play a long-term dustproof, the use of experience is seriously affected

In addition, the open optical engine design also has problems such as light leakage, when projecting in darker environments, the product will have a light spill situation, which looks very low.

Since 2011, when the first dust-free optical engine was developed and produced, CRE has been providing its own solutions to the problems of heat and dust dissipation. Initially, CRE's design started with a traditional LED projector and sealed the main body of the optical engine, but the conflicting relationship between brightness and heat dissipation could never be resolved. The closed space inside the optical engine also represented a more difficult heat dissipation, with the light source shining directly on the display, often resulting in screen burn in less than 20 minutes; but if the brightness of the light source was reduced, the heat dissipation problem was indeed solved, but the imaging brightness was so low that the projection effect was unrecognizable and completely unavailable for general projection needs.

After continuous testing, the research team finally succeeded in researching the first generation of dust-free optical engine by setting heat insulation glass and reducing the brightness of the light source, etc. With the advantages of high quality and low after-sales service compared with other LED projectors in the market, the LED projectors equipped with dust-free optical engine received great success at home and abroad. The production of LED projector optical engines strictly guarantees quality, reduces after-sales problems, and is responsible for each LED projector, which also lays the foundation for the subsequent successful development of fully enclosed dust-free optical engines.

In 2018, the CRE mini fully enclosed dust-free optical engine was officially launched. Compared to previous designs, this new fully enclosed dust-free optical engine is designed with two refractions, delivering a distinctive answer to the industry's ongoing heat dissipation problem and showing the industry that fully enclosed optical engines are a strong trend for the industry's future development. The internal structure of the optical engine has a complete imaging system and heat dissipation system, which makes it possible to sell the optical engine as a commodity. Any customer wishing to enter the LED projector industry no longer needs to have a well-developed optical R&D team, but only needs to provide the desired solution, and CRE will provide a one-stop customized solution.

And from the product quality, the current CRE fully enclosed dust-free optical engine has been researched in a high brightness version, further narrowing the brightness gap compared to previous commercial LED projectors. The newly developed D9, D16 model optical engines are perfectly suitable as home projection machines, they are smaller, support more customized solutions, and the brightness is already similar compared to ordinary optical engines

The initial design of the fully sealed dust-free optical engine has completely changed the awkward positioning of the home LED projector, greatly extending its service life and avoiding after-sales problems such as blurring of the lens due to gray spots and overheating and burning of the display. Based on the technical innovation of the fully sealed dust-free optical engine, the home LED projector industry, which had been relegated to a "toy" status, was revitalized and ignited the entire LED projector market.
